Alhamdulillah this research results on sultanate history in the Indonesian archipelago can finally be published. Akin to similar publications released in the previous year, this publication, too, was based on review results and publications carried out by the Centre of Research and Development, Religious Literature and Heritage in cooperation with Islamic higher education institutions (High School of Islamic Studies (STAIN), State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN), and State Islamic University (UIN).as weB as experts and historians from public universities in various cities and regions. For the year 2012. research works were carried out on 4 (four) previously analysed sultanates and Islamic kingdoms, including Hitu (Ambon, Moluccas). Banggai (Southeast Sulawesi), Lampung (Lampung), and Riau. Clearly, this work is far from comprehensive. As a start, there were a number of incompleteness and weakness whether in the methodologies used, theoretical frameworks, data completeness and processing sources of reference, and focus of analysis. However, no matter how simple, publishing the results of such work is crucial to do. at least to get feed backs for further improvements and revisions. In doing so, this work is also expected to encourage other researchers and historians to carry out further research works that would be more in-depth, more complete and based on more data sources. This is the only method to unveil the wealth of our historical archives. And through this method would our youth become acquainted with the archives of their rich and meaningful past religious culture.
